Training
The Guide
The Guide to the Training Resource gives an overview of the
training materials and includes information for organisations/services
and information for trainers. The Guide describes how the
Training Program can assist organisations to engage actively
with consumers and communities. The aim of the Training is
to move beyond simply providing information to facilitating
changes in attitudes and perceptions that lead to a change
in practice.
The Training Program mirrors the partnership that organisations
are endeavouring to cultivate and is designed for two trainers-a
"provider-trainer" with a health professional background,
and a "consumer-trainer". Ideally, both trainers
would have background in education and training or would have
an interest in acquiring skills in education and training.
Even though participatory methods are preferred, we recognise
that people learn in different ways so the modules use a variety
of methods from didactic to experiential.
Although developed for consumers and staff of primary care
organisations, most of the materials have wider application.
